Tournament Rules
Registration Requirements
Local Legends registration is open to male amateur golfers only that have an official handicap (recognized by Golf Canada and/or the USGA)
Maximum official handicap for each participating player is 18
Handicaps above 18 will be reduced to 18 for tournament play
Proof of at least six (6) registered handicap rounds in the previous twelve (12) months is required
All players must be 18 years or age or older before the start of competition
Local Legends is a male only tournament, played in 2-man teams
NOTE: Local Legends has the right to disqualify any team if they are found cheating or have inflated their handicaps prior to competition
Reserve Players
Each team has the option to register two (2) reserve players
Reserve players must be registered in our system prior to the first round of competition and cannot be substituted for any additional players
If a reserve player is not registered in our system, and the team plays a match with that reserve, the team may be disqualified from the tournament
Reserve players can only be registered under one team and cannot participate in any form, on any additional team
If a reserve player leaves the tournament, they must notify Local Legend organizers before attempting to re-register on another team
Region Groupings
Regions are organized into brackets and will be calculated prior to the first match
Regional groupings will be drawn on a geographical basis, prioritizing the proximity to your chosen “Home Course”
The draw will take place immediately after the registration deadline
The guideline for travel distance during the regional stage is set to a maximum 100 km radius
Regional playoffs and finals may require further travel distances. While our aim is to keep travel distances as short as possible, we acknowledge that in certain regions, longer itineraries may be necessary
Matches
All matches to be played at 18 hole golf courses
All players will receive information about their opponent prior to their match. Once information is received, teams must coordinate a mutual date and time to play their match
Both teams are responsible for contacting each other to determine a date and time for their match
Each match will have a designated “home” team
Home teams have the option of choosing to play their match on their home course or can choose an alternate course
The team that is drawn as the “Home Team” chooses which golf course to play in their region. We strive to ensure Home and Away teams are distributed as evenly as possible between rounds
Golf course selection during playoffs is to be chosen at a neutral location geographically in between both teams home courses. The home team is permitted to choose the golf course as long as its in a reasonably neutral area for travel
It is encouraged to check each players handicap and ID prior to each match to make sure handicaps are up to date and players are playing as the correct person
Any course chosen must be under $200 (including cart) for green fees. If the cost per round exceeds $200, the home team must cover the additional fees or another course has to be chosen.
All green fees are covered by the players and should be paid in full prior to the start of a round
Local Legends is not responsible for any unpaid green fees
Teams must complete their match within the time frame outlined by the tournament committee in the schedule tab
Team captains must agree on a date and time prior to the match. If a date and time cannot be agreed upon, the team captain from the “Home Team” must contact Local Legends organizers and a date will be determined based on a random draw
Once a date and time has been agreed upon, it can only be altered if both teams agree
If a team does not agree on a new date and time, or a team does not show up to play their match, the team that is at the course and ready to play will win by default
If one player from the team is not available to play at any given time, a reserve player may be substituted. Reserve players must be registered and identified prior to the start of any match
Scoring and Tee Selection
All player handicaps will be calculated before the start of each match and are determined by the course index of the chosen course.
Each player can select which tee block they want to play from. This will determine how many strokes each player gets.
Players get 90% of their handicap, which will determine what holes they receive strokes.
Players will play off the low handicap. Meaning the low handicap of the group will play to a zero (0).
Team captains are responsible for keeping scores for all players.
The Home team is responsible for registering the round on our digital scorecard. When the match is over, the Away team must approve the scorecard before sending the result to Local Legends organizers.
All scores must be submitted to Local Legends immediately following the conclusion of the match.
All players must follow the official rules of golf, outlined by Golf Canada and the USGA. It is highly recommended that all players review and understand the rules of golf prior to competition.
A team is allowed to protest a match if they believe the other team compromised the rules of golf. All protests must be emailed to Local Legends within 24 hours of completing the match.
Format
Matches are a four (4) ball, match-play, better ball format. The lowest net individual score from each team is the score that is counted.
The regional round is a double elimination format. Winning teams in each round automatically advance to the next round. Losing teams will move to a different bracket, but will still have the opportunity of advancing to the playoffs. Any team that loses two (2) matches will be eliminated from the tournament.
Range finders and GPS yardage devices are permitted. Caddies are not permitted.
In the event of a tie after 18 holes, teams can ask the course being played if they can go back and repeat holes to determine a winner. Playoff holes will be determined by course management at the time of the match.
If the course does not allow teams to go back out to settle their match, or the match cannot be completed due to darkness or inclement weather, the team that has the lower combined score after 18 holes will be determined the winner.
Registration Fees
Two (2) members from each team must pay their registration fee before the sign up deadline. Teams that do not pay their fee prior to sign up deadline will not be allowed to compete and will be disqualified from the tournament.
Reserve players do not have to pay a registration fee.
Minimum Regional Teams
We anticipate a strong registration for each region. However, if the number of registered teams per region is too small for competition, the full registration amount will be refunded to each team from the region, and the region will be excluded from the tournament.
